What is Average Cook?

A fair question, I'd say. Average Cook is definitely a work in progress, made by Scott McDonald, a Portland native transplanted to Southern California. More info on Scott can be found here.

Average Cook is a website designed for a few different reasons, but with one main goal in mind: I want to teach average folks how to make their average food into great food. "Making 'good enough' into 'not enough!'". I want my viewers to learn to enjoy being in the kitchen, whether it's through short explainers, easy (or hard!) recipes, humorous GIFs, or video demos. I think we could have a lot of fun with this. If there's something you want to see, let me know.

I think often a lot of people find the kitchen daunting; they don't have the right equipment, they don't have any recipes in mind, they don't understand recipe book lingo ('What in God's name is a skosh?'), etc. We've all been through that phase, and I want to help you get past it!

There's one thing that this site isn't, however. It's not a love letter to foodies. Don't get me wrong; I love food, I love interesting concepts and turning food into an art as much as the next guy. But that's not what we're here for. I understand the appeal of haute cuisine, but I also have a secret love of the Chicken McNugget. Trust me, I'm not above anything.

We're here to show you how to have fun in your own kitchen. Sure, I might do some food reviews or photos, but that's not meant to push you to do the same. Let's stay a little laid back, okay? I'll make the same mistakes that you do, and will shamelessly point them out. That's how we learn; that's how we improve.

Anyway, enough about the site. FILDI.
